On March 9, the practical information session entitled "Business and Psychological Health" was held at IUNIT. This workshop organized by Javier Santacruz, director of the Master's Degree in Economics and Business Management was taught by Jesús del Sol, a professional psychologist with experience in Business psychology.
Regardless of the type of company we are dealing with and its characteristics (field, sector, size, location,...), business psychology is an outstanding element. Its figures have a significant impact on the economy. Next, the most outstanding and pointed out aspects during this session are exposed: the costs in the economy due to illness and the need for psychology in the business field.
Comparative table of costs in economy by illness

This table shows data on the evolution and impact of the main diseases on the economy, with those related to mental disorders occupying first place.
Why is business psychology interesting?
During the session, Jesús talks about the consequences of these problems in companies, since it directly alters the productivity. He mentions that around 30% of sick leave is due to stress or burnout. He also explains that, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the return for each euro allocated by the company to improve mental health is up to 4 euros.
Within this context, the concept of satisfaction of the people who surround the company stands out for the following reasons:
- Performance execution.
- Absenteeism.
- Employee turnover.
- Impact on personal life.
- General well-being.
