El digital development has become in a few years the public and private economic engine of many countries. After the covid-19 crisis, this force has become the essential axis for economic recovery and even fundamental in the fight against the pandemic.

So much so, that on July 23 the Government of Spain presented the Digital Agenda 2025, an action plan with a public economic injection of 20.000 million euros.

STRATEGIC AXES

This new plan aims to promote measures such as the digital connectivity, the 5G rollout, the reinforcement of capacity in ciberseguridad, The digitization of Public Administrations and companies, particularly SMEs.

One of the main reasons that have motivated the construction of this new digitized model is the amount of Micro-SMEs that represent the entire Spanish business fabric, a figure of more than 90% of a type of company with less than 10 employees who carry out their activity in traditional sectors for the most part. In contrast, companies in more technological sectors, which represent a small part of the total, are characterized by having, in most cases, much greater digital skills.

The development of the plan is framed in 10 main axes that begin with "Strengthen the digital skills of workers and the public as a whole". In which special attention is paid to the present and future real needs of the labor market to face the digital divide in education, a problem that has been present for a long time also at the European level and you can learn more about it in this article The lack of digital skills in the current job market and that can be interpreted as an opportunity for new generations.

The plan continues with the «Acceleration of the digitization process of companies», with special attention to micro-SMEs mentioned above and start-ups, so that they receive the support they need to adapt to new business scenarios. Another of the main axes focuses on "Accelerate the digitization of the production model" that improves processes, optimizes resources and transform current models into strategic sectors in Spain such as Agri-food, Mobility, Health, Tourism, Commerce or Energy, among others.
